How a Condo is Different Than a Hotel

While our condo has many, many things you won’t find in a hotel (full kitchen, washer/dyer, 2 bathrooms, private bedrooms, TV’s everywhere, etc.), the on major difference between a condo and a hotel is that there isn’t daily cleaning (the condo is cleaned once before your arrival) and that things like coffee, toilet paper, etc. are provided as “starters” (to get you through the first day or so until you’ve had a chance to go to the local Publix or Super Target). We have guests staying for all sorts of different lengths of time (4 days, to 3 months) and the arrangement is the same for every guest. We get you started…

Tips & Notes About the Condo

  1. Tiled Floors.  Our unit has tiled floors.  We prefer tiles because (we find) carpet wears quickly and never really feels “clean”.  Note that the tiled floors are always cleaned before your arrival but it doesn’t take long for feet to drag in the elements from outside. We have provided a floor mop (like a Swiffer) so that you can clean to your hearts content if you find your feet or socks are getting dirty.  You’re certainly not expected to clean the floors but we’ve provided the cleaner if you are so inclined.
  2. Renting Cars.  If you are renting a car, pick whatever car rental firm meets your budget or requirements.  But if you haven’t made a choice or are looking for a tip, we have chosen Hertz our last few trips because we joined their “Gold” club and found it really convenient. It doesn’t cost anything to join but it included many perks including simply arriving at the airport and walking to our car (our name is on a sign indicating our spot), scanning our docs at a gate and driving off to our vacation.  We thought you might like that benefit too. The lineups for some of the other car rental agencies at the airport can be quite long we’ve noticed.
  3. Critters.  The day before your visit, Alan, our awesome property manager (his phone number is in the unit and easy to find) will have made sure it has been cleaned and will do a final sweep for critters. Remember it is Florida and it is warm and humid and that means bugs and critters of all kinds.  Please be diligent to keep the doors closed (this also helps with the air conditioning too).  The little guys might still find their way in there (under door cracks, through the sink plumbing) so heads up. We do everything we can to keep it under control but sometimes the little guys are persistent. 🙂
  4. WiFi. There are two WiFi Networks available. We provide private WiFi in the unit.  By all means enjoy it. However, you will probably want to also use the resort WiFi as well as you move throughout the resort (their network is throughout the resort).  We do our best to keep on top of their current password but sometimes they forget to spread the word. If this happens, please just call the Clubhouse and they will happily share the password with you for that network.

A Note From Mom (Wendy)

Hello there!  Wendy here.

So I want to say first of all, that everything you need is available at Walmart about a 5 minute drive away.  However, if you don’t feel like buying full boxes of things that you have to lug back with you, we put this little list together that we always pack before we fly out to the condo.

  • Laundry soap (2 pods are provided, but we always pack extras just in case).  With the laundry facilities provided you can pack less clothing and have more room for all the fun stuff you want to get while in Florida.
  • Rain ponchos for Florida’s unpredictable weather.  If you are at Disney World and it starts to rain, the ponchos they sell are at least USD $10.00 each.  We can find them at the dollar store, but a friend of ours said the Walmart ones are better quality and last longer than the really cheap ones.  You will be happy you took them… you think you won’t want to wear a garbage bag in public until you are in the middle of Disney with your kids in a lineup in the torrential rain.
  • Dishwasher pods – 2 pods are provided to get you started, so you can either buy some more at the store if you don’t want to hand wash your dishes or just pack extra so you don’t have to buy a whole box.
  • US Dollar bills and quarters.  We can’t emphasize this enough – if you are driving and haven’t signed up for a Sun Pass, you will need these for toll booths.  Twice now we have been emptying out our pockets because there is a change only toll booth without attendants right before the airport.  You would think we would have remembered after the first time… sadly, we did not.

We do have a list of condo contents on our welcome page (http://ourdisneyplace.com/welcome), but just in case you didn’t see it, we have beach towels for the resort and some games and DVD’s for the kids.  Extra room in your suitcase for more Disney stuff 🙂
